80mm Mortar (China)
80mm Mortar (China)

This page includes a picture, description and specifications for one item of military equipment available to our North Korean and Chinese enemies.

The United States entered the Korean War with virtually no knowledge of the enemy's military capabilities. First we found ourselves facing a North Korea armed with Soviet infantry weapons, tanks warplanes and artillery. Then we were precipitated into a desperate struggle with a China armed with virtually every kind of weapon manufactured until that time.

Over the first year of this conflict we improved our understanding of the enemy's weaponry through identifying and evaluating large quantities of captured equipment.

The purpose of this information is to provide United States military personnel orientation material, including characteristics and capabilities, on all enemy weaponry and equipment. Even though of limited scope, this booklet., if used properly in combination with other available information, will enable using units to report with greater accuracy the types of items captured from the enemy.

This publication has been made possible through the combined efforts of Ordnance, Chemical, Engineer, and Signal personnel.
