This was in 1951, you can see the hat still had a 'regimental' shape and there is a slight roll of fat around the waist. The ground was harder to hack into then as well, my muscles were still mere human flesh. Many pits,trenches and foxholes later changed all that though. We were tough and strong enough to hold a bull out for a pee.

What did irk us was, when on 'rest', we would be called on to dig for BHQ and at the 'bugout' positions in the rear. Got right up our collective noses that did.
