Here is Bob Fallon getting dirtied up for a patrol. Charcoal, burnt cork
or a special grease would be used to break up the white skin. Surprising
how a clean white face could show up at night, especially if there was a
bit of moonlight. Thus a little camouflage would often be used.
Bob saw
the tail end of WW2 and was known as 'a good dig', always reliable. His
features are on the now famous etching at the new Australian Korea War
Memorial in Canberra. This was copied from a photo of a six platoon
'fighter' heading down a trench on 355, to party the night away with
'Charlie' out in the valleys. The same photo much enlarged, adorns a wall
in the Seoul War Museum.
Like so many others, Bob and the bottle became
too well acquainted after the war.
